Local Boys to Feature in WAFL Colts Grand Final

Five local WKFL products will take to the big stage in the WAFL Colts Grand Final, representing Claremont Football Club. The local lads including Louis Broome (Looma Eagles), Gerrick Weedon (Peninsula Bombers), Sonny Dann (Cable Beach), Damien Crispin (Cable Beach) and Kiefer Yu (Cable Beach) all commenced their journeys in our local league and have acquitted themselves strongly over the course of this season.

There has also been some AFL interest in a number of the boys with my tip being that several will end up at West Coast in season 2010.

It is a credit to the local clubs that they are providing a strong pathway for juniors to progress through to senior ranks.

Lets hope now that Claremont and the AFL start injecting some serious $$$$$ into the Kimberley as the recent statistics prove that the investmen here won't be wasted. Spending significant dollars looking abroad when the talent is right under their noses.

From what i hear all those boys are integral parts of that Claremont side, and along with that there is 2 other Kimberley boys Jesse Cox and Jayden Howard who have failed down at Claremont. Apparentley Jesse had a bit going for him, but he cant translate it from the training track into gameday.

And i agree, some serious $$$$ needs to be put into kimberley footy, and a better pathway for boys who want to go and give it a crack at claremont needs to be established.

Claremont Colts smashed the Peel Thunder Colts in the WAFL Colts Grand Final last night.

Weedon, Dann, Yu, Crispin and Broome all played with reports suggesting Luis Broome (Looma) provided the X-Factor kicking 4 goals. Others all contributed strongly.

Congratulations lads, enjoy the celebrations and we look forward to catching up with you all back in Broome.

Apparently plenty of AFL scouts in attendance with Weedon a certainty to be taken in this years draft. Who knows what the draft holds in store for the other four lads. Could be a bumper recruitment year for the Kimberley.

Congratulations to the boys, and Lewis 'Moochy' Broome was awarded the Best on Ground Medallion!!

Well done to Lewis. He has the build of the Krackour brothers but I reckon he'd be pacier.

Wonder whether any clubs would take a punt on him in the draft or as a rookie listed player???

Anyone got any information on how the others fared in the GF?? Can anyone who attended the game give us some details.

I think Lewis has done himself alot of favours by putting on such a big show in the Grand Final, with a performance like that I would say his chances of being picked up as a rookie have sky rocketed. Good luck to him!

Moochy was sensational. As Brett Claudius said, Moochy would be the X factor in the grand final and how right he was. His reflexes, pace and ball handling was superb. Peel had no answer to him. The whole Claremont team played with great heart and even when they were behind on the scoreboard they kept up the confidence of each other. After half time they were trailing but when Sonny Dann took out a Peel player with a fair hip and shoulder it was the turning point of the game
